Solid State & Crystallization Specialist

Role Overview

The successful candidate will play a key role in the Solid State Development Unit within the R&D department. The core deliverable of Solid State Development is to develop robust crystallization processes to manufacture small molecule Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) and intermediates and perform additional analytical work required to support such activities.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for hands-on laboratory process development and an analytical mindset. Moreover, the candidate is expected to bring an innovation-based approach.

The candidate must be collaborative and participate in multifunctional teams to support Process Development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize robust API and intermediate crystallization processes.
  • Perform laboratory experiments to support process understanding and optimization.
  • Perform solid state analysis such as XRPD, DSC, TGA, optical microscopy, and particle size, together with UHPLC analysis and Karl Fischer determinations.
  • Participate in internal and CDMOs crystallization development projects.
  • Scale-up and process transfer from lab scale to industrial plant.
  • Author technical documents summarizing process development efforts.
  • Exhibit a collaborative and communicative nature, while maintaining strong working relationships.

Valued previous experience

  • Working knowledge of analytical techniques such as XRPD, DSC, TGA, HPLC and microscopy.
  • Prior crystallization, isolation, or purification experience
  • Experience with laboratory experimentation and process scale-up.
  • Experience with Process Analytical Technologies (PAT).
